Elämä hymyilee jälleen Wallu Valpiolle, 44, kirjaimellisesti. Syykin on selvä: suusta löytyvät nyt uutuuttaan hohtavat vitivalkoiset hampaat.
Ikänsä hammaslääkäriä kammoksunut mies oli päästänyt purukalustonsa vuosien saatossa luvattoman huonoon kuntoon, ja hän jopa häpesi hampaitaan.
Julkisuuden valokeilaan tottuneen mediapersoonan ei enää tehnyt mieli hymyillä julkisesti.
– Tupakka ja siideri eivät ole kaikista paras yhdistelmä.
Hampaani kellersivät ja olivat muutenkin heikossa jamassa, Wallu kertaa Seiskalle.
LAPSUUDEN TRAUMAT
Wallu muistelee tehneensä kivuliasta tuttavuutta hammaslääkärin pihteihin pienestä pitäen.
– Minulta on lapsesta asti revitty hampaita. Peruskouluaikoina suussani olleita ylimääräisiä hampaita revittiin irti vanhan liiton tyyliin, Wallu hymähtää.
– Silloin ei paljon puudutuksia käytetty. Siitä jäi aikamoiset traumat.
Vielä suurempi pelko syntyi, kun Wallu alkoi viime vuosina konkreettisesti ymmärtää, miten huonoon kuntoon hänen suunsa oli mennyt.
– Kun ruisleipää syödessä alkaa putoilla hampaita, niin olo alkaa olla kuin Uuno Turhapurolla. Tiesin, että jotain oli tehtävä.

VAMPYYRISTA POSLIINIIN
Niinpä Wallu päätti teettää täydellisen suuremontin. Apu löytyi Turkista, missä miehellä on jo vuosia ollut kakkosasunto.
– Tajusin, etteivät hampaani mene ainakaan paremmiksi. Ja kun en kuitenkaan halunnut jättää vanhaa hyvää ystävääni eli siideriä, niin piti tehdä valintoja.
Niinpä hänen suuhunsa asennettiin posliinista tehdyt, käsin hiotut uudet hampaat.
– Ensin hampaani viilattiin teräviksi kuin vampyyreilla, jonka jälkeen hampaisiini nakuteltiin uudet posliinihampaat kiinni.
Turkkilainen hammaslääkäri oli tehnyt ne itse käsin, hammas kerrallaan!

”ELÄMÄNI PARAS RATKAISU”
Tyytyväinen herra Valpio lähes herkistyy kertoessaan, miten konkreettisesti uudet hampaat ovat muuttaneet hänen elämäänsä.
– Hampaideni huonon kunnon vuoksi olin tottunut syömään oikealla puolella suuta, joten muutama päivä meni totutellessa uuteen purentaan.
